The First Annual Tour de Coop is Saturday Nov. 3rd from 11-4 at The Bell Garden. Come from 11-12 for an education session with Alyce Dobyns, a UCAN(urban chicken advocates of Nashville) founding member, as she leads a discussion on getting started with hens. Then from 12-4 you can tour 10 West Nashville coops. Tickets are $20 and benefit The Bell Garden.
Our volunteers are the best! We had another amazing Saturday in the garden on March 17th. Our big project for the day was planting some daylilies. Dorothy (the spriest 89 year old I’ve ever met) led everyone in proper planting techniques. In addition, we harvested about 25 pounds of kale for a local restaurant! We were so lucky to have a super enthusiastic and helpful family join us in the BELL on our first Saturday workday: the Taylors! Buck, Kristin, Ben and Kendall came all the way from Bozeman, Montana, to help us get our garden rolling this season. They are spending their spring break traveling around the southeast and volunteering with different community organizations as they go! They helped us set up our chicken fence, plant onions, weed the peas and set up our compost area! Thanks so much for all your help, Taylors, and have a safe journey!
We had our first group of Saturday volunteers out to the garden on March 10th. It was a beautiful day and a LOT was accomplished! We set up the chicken fence, planted about 500 more onions, weeded the peas, and set up the compost area! Way to go volunteers!
The BELL is ready to host another season of awesome volunteers in the garden!!! So come out and join us this Saturday, March 10th, at 8:30am for our first Saturday Garden Party of the year. We can’t wait to see everyone!
If you’re like me, your mouth is watering just looking at these sugar snap peas. Luckily, in just a handful of weeks we’ll be eating these beauties ourselves, straight out of the garden! More than twenty-five helpful gardeners from Bellevue Middle School came out to the BELL last Thursday as part of the Owls in the Garden program. They learned about seeds and then planted over 200 rowfeet of sugar snaps- way to go guys!
